About ME

Andrew Berrisford - Experience You Can Count On

Experience -  I started my career at the Electrical Measurements and Standards Laboratories of Eskom's Research Division in the '70s. Here I acquired an interest in power definitions while designing and testing many types of electrical measurement equipment. In 1989 I established Eskom's Load Research Group and developed several applications for metering data, including Forecasting, Cost-of-Service studies, and Rate Design. This later expanded to DSM design and evaluation, and integration of DSM forecasts into the long-term IRP. I emigrated to Canada in 2000 and assisted Guelph Hydro enter the electricity market as their Rate Analyst, serving on OEB Committees and implementing the interfaces between the metering systems, billing systems, and external market participants. In 2004 I moved to Vancouver and BC Hydro's Load Research team, where I have been involved in a range of metering and data analysis projects, including a TOU Pilot, a residential end-use metering project, and the design and development of the SMI system and its analytical engine EAS.

Education -  I hold a MSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand (1997) and a Technical Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the Germiston Technical College (1976). I have completed several relevant courses by the IEEE, EPRI, universities and utility consultants.

Industry Involvement -  I have been a member of the IEEE for over 20 years and served on the IEEE-1459 Standard Committee and the AEIC Load Research and Analytics Committee. I am a member of the CEA Metering Technology and Policy Committee and participate in the Joint Working Group between the CEA-MTPC and Measurement Canada on Complex Metering Initiatives. I have attended OIML TC12 Committee meetings as a Technical Expert guest of Measurement Canada.  I have published several papers and given presentations at many local and international conferences.
